In response to the letter signed by 25 Fields medalists talking about their concerns over the fast pace at which LLMs are solving maths problems, OpenAI says they'll be working with an independent advisory board of mathematicians.
OpenAI does not pay the members of this board and says the board is welcome to share unsolicited opinions and feedback. What I wonder is whether OpenAI will act on whatever feedback the board shares, regardless of whether it's solicited or not...
At the time of publication, OpenAI claims an internal model has already solved more than 100 unsolved maths problems, although details haven't been published yet.
